Five months after an unexplained alien occupation, the world has been divided into isolated quarantine zones beneath enormous hovering motherships. Roy Grayson, a withdrawn husband and father, survives alone inside one of these zones by following a strange set of rules that everyone seems to know, but no one can explain.
Every night, Roy experiences unsettling dreams that reinforce these rules. Day after day, he clings to routines and rituals that make him feel safe. But when an unexpected radio transmission suggests he may not be as alone as he thought, Roy begins to question everything he has accepted as truth.
As Roy pushes against the boundaries of his isolated world, he discovers that the greatest danger may not be the unseen beings occupying the Earth, but the lies that have kept him isolated, obedient, and disconnected from the people he loves.
At its heart, OCCUPIED isn't really an alien invasion story. It's a story about isolation, parenthood, temptation, and the lies we tell ourselves to justify the choices that pull us away from the people who matter most.
The occupation becomes a metaphor for the forces that quietly take control of our lives—fear, distraction, addiction, comfort, and deception. Roy's journey asks a simple but difficult question: What happens when the things that make us feel safest become the very things keeping us trapped?
OCCUPIED is ultimately a story about redemption and the possibility of choosing a different path, even after we've failed the people we love.
At its heart, OCCUPIED is not really about an alien invasion; it's about a man who needed a break from life and responsibility and, unfortunately, got exactly what he wished for. Before the occupation, Roy had slowly withdrawn into distraction, avoidance, and the comforts that made responsibility easier to ignore. He loved his wife and children, but he was becoming emotionally absent. The occupation simply externalizes that struggle. The prison Roy must escape is not only physical; it is spiritual and emotional.
I hope the film raises questions about fatherhood, resisting male selfishness, isolation, addiction, and the lies we tell ourselves to justify the self-imposed choices that bring harm to ourselves and our families. The unseen invaders become a metaphor for deception itself. They exploit fear, temptation, and hopelessness rather than brute force.
Roy's journey asks whether the things that feel safest are actually keeping us from becoming the people we were meant to be. It asks what happens when comfort becomes captivity, and whether redemption is still possible after we have failed the people we love.
I believe this is the right time to tell this story because many of these struggles have become increasingly common. Technology, endless entertainment, social media, addictions, gambling, alcohol, and even harmless hobbies can quietly become places where people retreat instead of engaging with their families. I see these patterns repeatedly in conversations with friends, at times in my own life, and in the broader culture. At the same time, I feel there has been a decline in stories centered on ordinary fathers that approach these issues with honesty and compassion.
Too often, the conversation is pulled toward extremes, either celebrating self-interest or reducing men to caricatures. I wanted to tell a story that speaks to the quieter failures many of us recognize in ourselves and the possibility of choosing a different path. Which, in this story is told through the lens of man and a father, but I believe these themes and struggles resonate amongst all demographics of adults and teenagers. I'm the person to tell this story because it comes from a deeply personal place. Roy's flaws are not invented. They are drawn from parts of myself that I have wrestled with and continue to confront. This screenplay became a way of examining my own tendencies toward distraction, avoidance, and isolation, along with my beliefs about spiritual deception and the subtle lies that pull us away from our families and our responsibilities.
More than anything, I hope OCCUPIED encourages honest conversations. I hope fathers, husbands, wives, partners, and families see pieces of themselves in Roy. I hope people recognize that isolation often disguises itself as comfort, that selfishness rarely announces itself as selfishness, and that the lies we believe about ourselves can become prisons if left unchallenged. If the film succeeds, I want audiences to leave asking difficult questions about the lives they are living while also believing that change is possible. Roy's story is ultimately one of hope. It suggests that even after failure, choosing truth, family, and responsibility is still worth the risk.

Director/Writer: Scott Jeschke has spent the last twenty years chasing one goal: making ambitious science fiction with heart.
After studying film, directing commercial work, and creating award-winning short films, Scott has built a community of more than 24,000 filmmakers on YouTube, and 18,000+ followers on Instagram, where he teaches and inspires independent filmmakers to create cinematic work without Hollywood-sized budgets.
His work has been featured by io9, Gizmodo, Film Shortage, Dread Central, and FirstShowing.net, while his screenplays have earned recognition from Stage 32, ScreenCraft, and The Script Lab.
In 2025, Scott’s emotional sci-fi drama REAL-TIME took home Best of Festival at his hometown festival in North Carolina—a fitting milestone before taking his biggest creative leap yet.
Now, Scott is bringing that same passion, heart, and independent filmmaking spirit to his debut feature, OCCUPIED, which will be filmed locally in North Carolina.
Producer: Wade Patterson is a Los Angeles-based producer and director originally from Jackson, Mississippi. Over more than a decade in the industry, Wade has built a reputation for hands-on producing and on-set expertise, helping bring ambitious independent projects to life. His feature filmDeath Cipher, which he wrote, produced, and directed, is now streaming on Tubi. His short documentaryTunnel Love, which follows a homeless couple living in the tunnels beneath Las Vegas, now has over 1 million views on YouTube.
Producer: Eliza Jeschke brings over 15 years of experience in event planning, marketing, production, and creative project management. She has produced numerous short films alongside Scott Jeschke, applying her expertise in team coordination, logistics, marketing, and production to OCCUPIED, Scott’s debut feature film. Eliza is also Scott’s wife of 14 years and a longtime creative partner in his filmmaking journey.
Director of Photography: Jordan Dudek is a freelance filmmaker, director, and Director of Photography (DP) based in California. He specializes in creating highly cinematic commercial brand films, independent shorts, and corporate storytelling.

There are a lot of moving pieces that go into making a film, and every one of them comes with a cost. From cast and crew to insurance, locations, equipment, legal fees, food, transportation, and everything in between, the expenses quickly add up. And that’s before you multiply them across 15 days of filming.
We’re working hard to keep the budget as lean as possible while still creating a film we can be proud of. Every dollar helps us cover the real costs of production and bring OCCUPIED to life.

OCCUPIED is not explicitly a horror film, although it does contain at times frightful and suspenseful set pieces. At it's core it is a character-driven, physiological science fiction thriller.

The film will be shot in late September into early October and will be filmed outside Raleigh, NC.
