OCCUPIED is the debut feature film from writer-director Scott Jeschke. In a world occupied by hovering motherships and deadly no-go zones, a withdrawn suburban husband survives alone under a set of mysterious rules—until he discovers they may be keeping him obedient rather than alive, forcing him to risk everything to find his family. A contained sci-fi drama about fear, faith, parenthood, and the cost of choosing comfort over courage, OCCUPIED, was filmed in North Carolina in September and October 2026, OCCUPIED is now in post-production.

After 15 incredible days of production, we're thrilled to share that OCCUPIED has officially wrapped principal photography. Even better? We completed filming on schedule and on budget!

Bringing this story from script to screen has been one of the hardest and most rewarding experiences of our lives. What started as an idea and a dream became something real, thanks to an extraordinary cast and crew who poured their hearts, talents, and countless hours into this film.

Five months after an unexplained alien occupation, the world has been divided into isolated quarantine zones beneath enormous hovering motherships. Roy Grayson, a withdrawn husband and father, survives alone inside one of these zones by following a strange set of rules that everyone seems to know, but no one can explain.

Every night, Roy experiences unsettling dreams that reinforce these rules. Day after day, he clings to routines and rituals that make him feel safe. But when an unexpected radio transmission suggests he may not be as alone as he thought, Roy begins to question everything he has accepted as truth.

As Roy pushes against the boundaries of his isolated world, he discovers that the greatest danger may not be the unseen beings occupying the Earth, but the lies that have kept him isolated, obedient, and disconnected from the people he loves.

At its heart, OCCUPIED isn't really an alien invasion story. It's a story about isolation, parenthood, temptation, and the lies we tell ourselves to justify the choices that pull us away from the people who matter most.

The occupation becomes a metaphor for the forces that quietly take control of our lives—fear, distraction, addiction, comfort, and deception. Roy's journey asks a simple but difficult question: What happens when the things that make us feel safest become the very things keeping us trapped?

OCCUPIED is ultimately a story about redemption and the possibility of choosing a different path, even after we've failed the people we love.

At its heart, OCCUPIED is not really about an alien invasion; it's about a man who needed a break from life and responsibility and, unfortunately, got exactly what he wished for. Before the occupation, Roy had slowly withdrawn into distraction, avoidance, and the comforts that made responsibility easier to ignore. He loved his wife and children, but he was becoming emotionally absent. The occupation simply externalizes that struggle. The prison Roy must escape is not only physical; it is spiritual and emotional.

I hope the film raises questions about fatherhood, resisting male selfishness, isolation, addiction, and the lies we tell ourselves to justify the self-imposed choices that bring harm to ourselves and our families. The unseen invaders become a metaphor for deception itself. They exploit fear, temptation, and hopelessness rather than brute force.

Roy's journey asks whether the things that feel safest are actually keeping us from becoming the people we were meant to be. It asks what happens when comfort becomes captivity, and whether redemption is still possible after we have failed the people we love.

I believe this is the right time to tell this story because many of these struggles have become increasingly common. Technology, endless entertainment, social media, addictions, gambling, alcohol, and even harmless hobbies can quietly become places where people retreat instead of engaging with their families. I see these patterns repeatedly in conversations with friends, at times in my own life, and in the broader culture. At the same time, I feel there has been a decline in stories centered on ordinary fathers that approach these issues with honesty and compassion.

Too often, the conversation is pulled toward extremes, either celebrating self-interest or reducing men to caricatures. I wanted to tell a story that speaks to the quieter failures many of us recognize in ourselves and the possibility of choosing a different path. Which, in this story is told through the lens of man and a father, but I believe these themes and struggles resonate amongst all demographics of adults and teenagers. I'm the person to tell this story because it comes from a deeply personal place. Roy's flaws are not invented. They are drawn from parts of myself that I have wrestled with and continue to confront. This screenplay became a way of examining my own tendencies toward distraction, avoidance, and isolation, along with my beliefs about spiritual deception and the subtle lies that pull us away from our families and our responsibilities. 

More than anything, I hope OCCUPIED encourages honest conversations. I hope fathers, husbands, wives, partners, and families see pieces of themselves in Roy. I hope people recognize that isolation often disguises itself as comfort, that selfishness rarely announces itself as selfishness, and that the lies we believe about ourselves can become prisons if left unchallenged. If the film succeeds, I want audiences to leave asking difficult questions about the lives they are living while also believing that change is possible. Roy's story is ultimately one of hope. It suggests that even after failure, choosing truth, family, and responsibility is still worth the risk.

Our goal is to bring OCCUPIED to as wide an audience as possible while finding the viewers who will connect most deeply with its story. We want this film to reach people who love thought-provoking science fiction, intimate thrillers, and genre stories that leave audiences with something to discuss long after the credits roll.

Our journey will begin with a carefully selected film festival campaign. We plan to submit OCCUPIED to festivals that champion independent filmmaking, science fiction, horror, and character-driven stories. The festival circuit will give us the opportunity to introduce the film to audiences, build momentum, generate press, and connect with industry professionals who can help take the film to its next stage. We also hope to use this experience to build on the relationships and filmmaking community we've developed through Scott's previous work.

From there, we will pursue distribution opportunities that allow OCCUPIED to reach audiences beyond the festival circuit. We envision the film connecting with viewers who are drawn to science fiction and alien mysteries, but also with those who appreciate stories centered on family, fatherhood, isolation, faith, and redemption. The film's genre elements may bring audiences in, but its deeply human story is what we hope will stay with them.

For an independent film like OCCUPIED, building an audience doesn't begin when the film is finished—it starts now. Scott Jeschke has spent years developing a community of filmmakers and film lovers through his YouTube channel, social media platforms, and previous work. We plan to build on that existing audience while continuing to bring new viewers into the world of OCCUPIED throughout production and beyond.

As the film moves from pre-production through filming, post-production, festivals, and eventual distribution, we'll share the journey with our supporters through behind-the-scenes content, production updates, and exclusive footage. Our community will have the opportunity to follow its creation and become part of the story behind it.

While we will pursue traditional distribution partnerships and opportunities within the independent film community, we're also preparing to take an active role in marketing and audience development ourselves. By combining Scott's established online presence, a strategic festival campaign, direct audience engagement, and the support of our crowdfunding community, we believe OCCUPIED can build a passionate audience that continues to grow well beyond its initial release.

Our ultimate goal is to find the right path for OCCUPIED, whether through a distributor, sales partner, or strategic digital release, so this independent film can reach audiences around the world and spark the conversations at the heart of its story.

Director/Writer: Scott Jeschke has spent the last twenty years chasing one goal: making ambitious science fiction with heart.

After studying film, directing commercial work, and creating award-winning short films, Scott has built a community of more than 24,000 filmmakers on YouTube, and 18,000+ followers on Instagram, where he teaches and inspires independent filmmakers to create cinematic work without Hollywood-sized budgets.

His work has been featured by io9, Gizmodo, Film Shortage, Dread Central, and FirstShowing.net, while his screenplays have earned recognition from Stage 32, ScreenCraft, and The Script Lab.

In 2025, Scott’s emotional sci-fi drama REAL-TIME took home Best of Festival at his hometown festival in North Carolina—a fitting milestone before taking his biggest creative leap yet.

Now, Scott is bringing that same passion, heart, and independent filmmaking spirit to his debut feature, OCCUPIED, which will be filmed locally in North Carolina.

Producer: Wade Patterson is a Los Angeles-based producer and director originally from Jackson, Mississippi. Over more than a decade in the industry, Wade has built a reputation for hands-on producing and on-set expertise, helping bring ambitious independent projects to life. His feature filmDeath Cipher, which he wrote, produced, and directed, is now streaming on Tubi. His short documentaryTunnel Love, which follows a homeless couple living in the tunnels beneath Las Vegas, now has over 1 million views on YouTube.

Producer: Eliza Jeschke brings over 15 years of experience in event planning, marketing, production, and creative project management. She has produced numerous short films alongside Scott Jeschke, applying her expertise in team coordination, logistics, marketing, and production to OCCUPIED, Scott’s debut feature film. Eliza is also Scott’s wife of 14 years and a longtime creative partner in his filmmaking journey.

Director of Photography: Jordan Dudek is a freelance filmmaker, director, and Director of Photography (DP) based in California. He specializes in creating highly cinematic commercial brand films, independent shorts, and corporate storytelling.

Co-Producer/1st Assistant Director: Andy Brewster is a Los Angeles and North Carolina-based Producer and First Assistant Director focused on independently financed feature films. His work spans narrative film, commercial production, and branded entertainment, with a particular focus on turning ambitious creative ideas into practical, achievable productions.

Andy's 1st AD credits include work for MrBeast, music videos for artists including half•alive, and narrative features such as May and the Woodsman, starring Percy Hynes White (Wednesday, My Old Ass) and Cassady McClincy (Tracker, The Walking Dead), which he also Co-Produced. He served as a production consultant on the XR short film "Nevatars," directed by Andy Serkis, and has produced commercial work for clients including Action Studios, Clorox, and Universal Studios.
